Two quick things…

1. Guatemala

I’m headed to Guatemala in the a.m. and I’m pumped!

O wait it’s the a.m. now…Maybe I should finish packing?!?!

Six years ago I went with my church on the same trip and had a blast. The partnership has continued to build as the church has sent teams each summer.  We go to the same village and have fostered a relationship with the wonderful people of Guatemala!  I know so much has changed in the last six years, and I can’t wait to dive in.

We will be:

  1. Completing construction projects and clean-up for impoverished communities.
  2. Meeting students who have received education funding from the church.
  3. Delivering smokeless stoves to homes so that families cease breathing in harmful fumes.
  4. Numerous other activities that involve the elderly and children!

2. Writing Goal!!!

On a different vein, today I hit another milestone.  That goal is 35,000 words, or about 128 double spaces pages of first draft manuscript work completed.

I am about halfway done with my first draft for a dystopian YA fantasy.  My ultimate goal is 70,000 words by the end of the year or a completed manuscript. There is so much work to be done, hence the words “halfway”, and “first draft”, but I’m proud of myself for making it this far, and I can’t wait to reach my next goal.

But for now, off to Guatemala.  TTYL

P.s. I will not be posting this Sunday or the next.  You may see something soon from me after I return on August 15th.

P.s.s. Here’s to working toward empathic relationships with the Guatemalans.  We all share this great earth and we can learn and grow together.  I’m excited to see what we’re capable of accomplishing.  Empathy over sympathy.  Dynamic relationships over static.  Love does.
